15 $1,000 Scholarships to Celebrate 15 Years!

SAWUSA turned 15 years old on October 15th, 2024. To celebrate this milestone we announced a special program for our 2025 Tours. The program was such a success, we have now made it permanent.

We offer up to FIFTEEN $1,000 Scholarships to be used toward a tour. Here are the details….

  • You are going to make a video about yourself using the criteria below. We are going to blast this video out via our different social media channels. Then you are going to ask your friends and family to like, comment, share this video. Once we get 100 or more ‘likes/comments/shares’ then we are going to officially consider this video for a scholarship.
  • We will select 15 of the most creative and most unique highlight videos submitted. If selected the athlete will receive up to a $500 discount per traveler for a maximum of two travelers. So, the maximum scholarship award is $1,000!
  • This scholarship is non-transferable, has no cash value, and can only be used for a tour in the upcoming summer.
  • SAWUSA will select at their own discretion anywhere up to 15 winners.
  • The scholarship cannot be used as your deposit for a tour.

What we are looking for…

  1. Creativity! Use your imagination and create something totally unique and cool. If you have to ask us, “what are the instructions for the video” and “how long does it have to be”, “is it ok if I do this or that…” then you are missing the purpose of the scholarship. The scholarship is meant to reward people for taking the initiative to create. You decide what you want your video to be!
  2. This scholarship is MERIT BASED. The merit is, “how cool is your video?” What we definitely are not looking for is a recap of how many hardships you were handed in life. There are plenty of scholarships out there like that. This isn’t one of them. If you’ve overcame some hardships, or didn’t …. you are welcome to make a cool video. The coolest videos earn a $1,000 scholarship.
  3. Show yourself in action. This is a sports highlight video. So we need to see SOME of you playing your sport. However, you can use the other two video upload spots for videos that are strictly game action. So make this one fun and interesting and just include a small portion of it being athletic competition. Again, if your video is just clips of you playing your sport it will not be a video we will consider.
  4. Tell a story. As you read above, be creative and make your video what you want it to be.  However, some things you might consider covering are (but certainly not limited to): Why you want to travel with SAWUSA? What would it mean to you to be an ambassador of the USA? What are your goals in life and how does this trip fit in with those goals? What interests you about the specific country and tour you are applying for? What is your travel history?
  5. Make us laugh. Youth sports is a cesspool of negativity. Not at SAWUSA! You want $1,000 off a trip? We’d love to give it to you. Make us laugh and your chances are going to go way up. Whatever you include in your video is up to you, but make it funny.
What we aren’t looking for…
  1. Boring stuff.
  2. DEI. Our travelers come in all different shapes, sizes, colors, religions, cultures, backgrounds, etc. We travel the World to meet people way more different than us. We love that and we were talking about the benefits of diversity way before it became the only thing people talk about. On our tours we share our love of our sport with people around the World that are so different from us. Often our travelers learn not how different we all are, but how much we have in common. So, make your video about you and how awesome, funny, interesting, and unique you are… not labels.
  3. Your parents. You want to include your mom and dad in the video, that’s cool. But make sure you as the athlete are the writer, producer, and star of the show.

Final Notes

  1. By submitting a video for our scholarship contest you are consenting to us using your video for promotion and marketing. We will be posting it on-line and asking others, “what do you think of this video?” So don’t put anything in your video you don’t want others to see.
  2. I know, you are programmed to ask, when is it due? There isn’t a due date. The scholarship program is OPEN now and will be until a maximum of 15 scholarships are awarded.
  3. How to enter? Upload a super creative, fun, and funny highlight video to your SAWUSA application. Then just let us know by e-mailing Tim at tim@studentathleteworld.com that you want the video to be considered for a scholarship.
It’s as simple as that. Now get out there and create something unique. Good luck – we can’t wait to watch your video!

Some Examples of Past Scholarship Winners

Here are some videos who have won scholarships. This doesn’t mean you need to do exactly this though. Remember, be creative!
